Our environment and its’ surroundings play a huge role in our everyday lives. It plays a part in hormone synthesis, our emotions, our moods, and our mindset.
For instance, if you walk into a dark room, with dark walls, and dark décor, those surroundings may make an individual feel more sad, anxious, or depressed. These dark and dreary rooms will definitely play a role in the motivation of an individual. If you walked into a brightly colored room, with yellow décor, big windows that allow a lot of sunlight to shine through; it will uplift your spirit. These surroundings will increase the chance to help an individual feel happy, motivated, and energetic.
As a student, I have been in multiple different classrooms, of which different types of teachers taught in. Some of the rooms were nothing but blank, boring white walls; and some were filled with color, paintings, drawings, pictures. I found it a lot easier to stay focused and awake in the room that was filled with décor, whereas I fell asleep during lectures in the blank rooms.
As an employee, I have worked in places that have a lot of windows, bright colors, and beautiful paintings on the walls; and that workplace enabled me to feel energetic. Whereas in the workplace that had no windows and blank walls I felt tired and lazy, every day seemed to drag.
My mother’s house feels so warm, so inviting, and cozy because her house is decorated with so much décor it enables visitors to feel welcome, and even safe. Décor is very important for many reasons. It is a way of expression. It can be a way for an individual to escape reality.
